Airbus Helicopters plans to expand its Digital Campus in Albacete to around 200 employees by the end of 2029, according to Mónica Sánchez Ruiz, who works in the centre’s automation area. The campus had about 35 employees at the time of the visit described in the source; the longer-term target does not mean that 200 jobs are currently open.

Located in the Castilla-La Mancha Science and Technology Park, the campus began operating in January 2026 and was officially inaugurated on June 17. Its teams develop digital tools and technologies for Airbus Helicopters. The roles being sought include business analysts, solutions architects, artificial intelligence specialists and software developers, so opportunities are not limited to aerospace engineers.

One area of work is robotic process automation, or RPA. Using UiPath, the team builds software robots to handle repetitive computer tasks, such as collecting information from SAP, processing it in Excel and emailing the results. Sánchez Ruiz said a procedure that could take five hours can instead be scheduled to run overnight.

The campus also supports the use of augmented reality in helicopter operations. Carlos López Alfaro, Airbus Helicopters Spain’s head of digital transformation, demonstrated Microsoft HoloLens 2, which can overlay 3D models onto aircraft. The technology is being used in tasks including painting and fitting electrical supports. Airbus planned to extend to Albacete the development of software for these applications, which had been carried out in France and Germany.

Cybersecurity is another part of the centre’s remit. Chema García, who works in the field, said the Albacete team cooperates with Airbus Helicopters teams in other countries to identify vulnerabilities and help address them. This work concerns corporate IT systems, rather than software installed on helicopters, which is handled by other areas. Asked about AI’s impact on demand for cybersecurity specialists, García said he expected it to increase the need.

Airbus also works with the University of Castilla-La Mancha, and Sánchez Ruiz said 60% of the vacancies being advertised at the time were aimed at recent graduates. That figure referred to published openings, not completed hires. Candidates can also apply through recruitment processes outside the university partnership. Vacancies can be found on Airbus Helicopters’ LinkedIn page by filtering for Albacete, or through the Airbus Careers website.
