Apple has received court approval for a $50 million settlement with MacBook owners who experienced problems with the company’s butterfly-style keyboards. The agreement covers eligible customers in California, Florida, Illinois, Michigan, New Jersey, New York and Washington, according to reports cited in the original account.
The settlement applies to MacBook, MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models purchased between 2015 and 2019. Owners who had defective keyboards may receive payments ranging from $50 to $395.
Apple introduced the keyboard design in 2015. It was prone to failures, including keys that stopped responding when dust or other debris got inside. Apple has not admitted wrongdoing as part of the settlement.
