Apple will require developers to disclose whether their apps include dating or relationship features, interactions involving sexual behaviour, or tools for sharing a user’s real-world location. The new declarations are intended to support updated App Store age-rating rules, including a minimum 18+ rating for apps with dating and relationship features.

The requirements will also cover apps featuring virtual companions. Location-sharing features may affect an app’s minimum age rating in some regions, depending on local regulations.

The new questions will be added to the age-rating questionnaire in App Store Connect on November 16. Developers must complete the declarations for all apps by January 12, 2027.

Apple already uses an 18+ rating for apps involving categories such as gambling, violence, drugs, alcohol, tobacco, nudity or sexual content. The expanded guidance extends that approach to dating platforms and virtual companions that enable romantic or sexual interactions.
