BMW plans to introduce urban driving assistance in Germany in 2027, extending support beyond motorways and national roads. With a route active in BMW Maps, the system is designed to assist with turns and right-of-way situations, including roundabouts, lane changes and junctions.
The system will remain at Level 2, so drivers must stay attentive, monitor traffic and be ready to take control. BMW Symbiotic Drive will allow drivers to accelerate, brake and steer while working in cooperation with the assistance features.
BMW says the new iX3, iX4, X5, 3 Series and 7 Series have the required hardware. The functions may be activated after purchase through over-the-air software updates.
Technical testing has been completed, but official confirmation of homologation is expected in early 2027. BMW has not announced a timetable for expansion to other countries, including Portugal, or disclosed pricing.
