Casio has unveiled the CT-FS1, a 61-key keyboard designed to help beginners play along with songs through the company’s new Feel Sync technology.
The system works with a proprietary Feel Sync app. Users upload a song, and an algorithm analyzes its musical content so the keyboard can adapt to the track and remain in key. Casio says the feature can handle songs with multiple key changes and bridges.
Rather than replacing traditional practice, the technology is aimed at helping new players develop rhythm, timing and expression. The Feel Sync function can also divide the keyboard into two zones, allowing a beginner to play on one side while a more experienced musician performs the actual notes on the other.
The CT-FS1 can still be used as a conventional Casio keyboard. It has touch-responsive keys, a built-in stereo speaker with a surround effect, a selection of sounds, a headphone output and Bluetooth connectivity.
The keyboard weighs just under 10 pounds and can run on AA batteries or an AC adapter. It is available in all-black and all-white versions, with a price of $400.
