“You Can See Everything,” a documentary about Elizabeth Holmes, will arrive in Spanish cinemas on December 25. Distributor Avalon had initially scheduled its release for February, but brought it forward after the film’s strong performance in the United States.

Directed by Lance Oppenheim and Nathan Fielder, the nearly three-hour film was made in secret over more than three years. It begins 34 days before Holmes entered prison. Oppenheim has said Holmes invited production company A24 to her home before her incarceration, and that the studio later offered him the project without requiring him to complete a film if he found no compelling story to tell.

Holmes founded Theranos in 2003, claiming the company could run a range of blood tests using just a few drops of blood. The claims were false. She was sentenced to 135 months in prison in 2022 for defrauding investors and entered a federal prison in Bryan, Texas, on May 30, 2023. Her sentence has since been reduced to 123 months, with a transfer to a reentry facility scheduled for August 2027.

The film’s trailer gained attention for a fixed shot in which Holmes asks Fielder why she would deceive him. The documentary uses extended conversations between the two, and its directors have asked viewers and critics not to reveal a turn in the film’s second half.

The documentary opened in 855 US theaters on October 16, taking in $15.6 million in its first weekend—the strongest documentary opening since the 2013 One Direction film. Its box-office run continued: it earned $18.7 million in its second weekend, then reached number one again over Halloween with $11.4 million from 3,242 theaters.

A24 is also seeking an Oscar nomination for the film in the best-picture category. No documentary has previously been nominated for best picture. The film’s prospects in the documentary category are uncertain, in part because Fielder takes part in the story.
