The FBI has attributed the theft of approximately $6.3 billion in cryptocurrency from Binance customers to malicious actors linked to North Korea. The attack took place on or around October 29, according to the agency, which has named the activity “TraderTraitor.”

The FBI said it, along with the US Secret Service and IRS Criminal Investigation, observed the actors converting the stolen assets primarily into Ethereum. The agency expects the funds to be moved through decentralized finance platforms and instant-swap services as part of additional laundering stages.

The statement provided few other details or evidence about the operation. Binance froze withdrawals immediately after the hack but reopened customer withdrawals the following day.
