Fritz has introduced the Smart Energy 201, a smart plug designed to switch connected devices on and off while measuring, recording and analysing their energy consumption. The company says it can also help users identify opportunities to reduce electricity use at home.
The plug connects to a home network using DECT and can be set up through the Fritz app or a Fritzbox. Users can control it from a smartphone, tablet or computer, including when away from home. It also supports Matter, allowing voice control through compatible assistants such as Google Home and Amazon Alexa.
In addition to its built-in button, the Smart Energy 201 offers automated schedules. These include one-off or daily switching, routines linked to sunrise and sunset, and random operating times, which could help make a home appear occupied. Fritz says the compact design should fit most sockets without blocking adjacent outlets, though the source notes that larger Schuko plugs may be a tight fit.
According to Fritz, updated hardware lets the plug safely control devices with power consumption of up to 3,680 watts, while the plug itself uses less than 0.2 watts. Its recommended retail price is €49. The article says it is likely to be most useful for households that already have a Fritzbox and want to build a smart-home setup gradually.
Fritz products can cost more than those from other manufacturers, but the company promotes long software support, privacy protections and additional features. The Smart Energy 201 joins the company’s smart-home ecosystem and can be managed alongside other Fritz devices.
