Google is working on changes to Gemini in the Gmail mobile app, including a floating prompt bar and a command for adding files from Google Drive. The interface update was spotted in the app’s code by Android Authority, but it is still in development and is not available in public testing.

The redesigned prompt would appear as a pill-shaped control at the bottom of the screen, replacing the larger dialogue box that currently opens from Gmail’s Gemini icon. The new bar is expected to offer options for sending voice messages and inserting files, while taking up less space and leaving more of the inbox or email text visible.

A separate “Add from Drive” command would let users provide Gemini with files stored in their cloud account. The assistant could then draw on those documents, along with information from a user’s email history or the web, when generating a response.
