Google has added a new Easter egg celebrating The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Searching for “Zelda,” “The Legend of Zelda” or “The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time” on a computer or mobile device reveals a Master Sword icon at the bottom of the screen.
Clicking the sword triggers a sound effect and a transition inspired by the game before changing the page to a retro version of Google. The experience recreates the search engine as it appeared in 1998, the year Ocarina of Time was released and Google was launched.
The retro interface is notably simpler than today’s version. It removes AI summaries and information panels, displaying only a list of links. It also replaces Google’s standard typeface with Times New Roman and shows how long the search took to produce its results.
The recreated page is especially focused on the desktop experience, reflecting a time when Google did not yet have a mobile version. The search process also appears slower, recalling the limitations of older software and dial-up connections.
Users can return to the standard results page by clicking the sword again. The icon itself also adopts the retro appearance while the Easter egg is active.
The feature arrives as anticipation builds around the remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for Nintendo Switch 2. The game is scheduled for release on November 5 and has been well received by the community, according to the original report.
