itch.io has added a “No AI” option to its browsing filters, allowing users to hide games whose creators disclose the use of Generative AI. The filter is also available in search and other areas where the platform said filtering options had been lacking.

Applying the filter to games reduced the projects shown from more than 1.77 million to fewer than 425,000. The option depends on creators disclosing AI use: Itch.io asks creators to identify generative AI content when appropriate, but its stated rules do not clarify whether there are penalties for failing to use the tag.

The platform already prohibits uploading excessive amounts of automatically generated or AI-generated content, treating it as spam. AI-generated material has nevertheless appeared on the service. Itch.io also hosts game jams with varying approaches to AI, including events that prohibit it and others built around its use.

Steam, a larger gaming marketplace, also has disclosure rules for generative AI, but does not currently offer a store filter to exclude games with those disclosures.
