Meta is reportedly developing a humanoid robot for domestic use in collaboration with Chinese robotics company Fourier. According to reporting by The Information, the companies completed an initial prototype after about three months and are now working on a second version.

Internally known as Max, the robot is approximately 1.5 meters tall and weighs around 48 kilograms. It has two five-fingered hands intended to let it pick up smaller objects. An integrated screen can imitate facial expressions, while the robot is designed to interpret hand gestures and detect spoken commands from up to five meters away. Built-in speakers would allow it to communicate.

The second version is expected to include additional sensors to help with tasks such as climbing stairs. Max is based on Nvidia’s Jetson Thor chip, although no launch date or commercial release plans have been announced.

Meta told The Information that its cooperation with Fourier is focused on internal research and experimental work. Meta executives, including robotics vice president Li-Chen Miller, reportedly travelled to Shanghai to help advance the project. The company is also said to have presented the Max prototype internally to executives in August 2026.

For control of the humanoid, Meta may rely on its Muse AI agent. The company expanded its capabilities in this area in May 2026 through the acquisition of Assured Robot Intelligence, a startup that trains AI models to recognise and adapt to human behaviour.
