Not every Samsung S Pen can be located through SmartThings Find. The platform officially supports only the S Pen Pro, while alerts built into some Galaxy phones merely warn users that the stylus has been left behind without showing its precise location.

The S Pen Pro was introduced with the Galaxy S21 Ultra and later released alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3, although only the Fold 3 supports it. It is compatible with the Note 10 and Note 20 series, the Galaxy S21 Ultra through Galaxy S26 Ultra, and the Galaxy Z Fold 4 through Z Fold 6.

Sold separately for $100, the S Pen Pro is a larger rechargeable stylus with a USB-C port, a dedicated connection button and a switch for compatible Galaxy devices. Despite its tracking support, it does not fit inside the Galaxy S26 Ultra's built-in S Pen slot.

Bluetooth support by itself does not make an S Pen trackable. Samsung's Bluetooth-enabled pens for devices such as the Galaxy Note 9 and later Ultra models can control the camera and certain apps, but their built-in pens are not compatible with SmartThings Find. The S25 Ultra and S26 Ultra also use S Pens without Bluetooth, while the S Pen Fold Edition and Creator Edition lack tracking support as well.

To enable tracking on the S Pen Pro, users must charge it, select the appropriate mode and hold its Connection button for three seconds. After tapping Connect, they need to sign in to their Samsung account and enable offline finding in SmartThings under Life > Find > Settings > Allow devices to be found.

Once configured, the S Pen Pro appears in SmartThings Find. Users can refresh its position on the map, request navigation directions and activate a blinking light when searching nearby. The separate Samsung Find app also lists the stylus under its Devices tab.

The system relies on participating Galaxy phones and tablets with offline finding enabled. These devices can detect a powered-on S Pen Pro over Bluetooth and anonymously relay its location to Samsung, even without being paired with the pen. The map may display the last reported position, and Samsung provides an option to encrypt offline location data. Users can disable offline finding, meaning not every Galaxy device will contribute to the network.

For other S Pens, Samsung's “Warn if S Pen is left behind” setting can provide an alert when the stylus has been separated from the phone. On the Galaxy S26 Ultra, for example, the warning indicates that the pen has not been returned to its slot after the display is turned off, but it cannot identify where the pen is.

Samsung lists a replacement S Pen for the Galaxy S26 Ultra at $55 in the United States. Any replacement should be checked for compatibility with the relevant Galaxy device.
