Chinese smartphone maker realme has released the realme 16 Pro Harry Potter Edition, a collectible Android phone designed around the wizarding franchise. It marks the company’s second collaboration with Warner Bros., following a limited-edition Game of Thrones model. The first batch reportedly sold out within minutes, and realme has since made another batch available on its website. The phone is listed there for around $657.
The device comes in a “Magic Brown” finish, with an argyle pattern, a leather-like texture and a gold Hogwarts crest. Realme says the crest changes color when exposed to UV light, displaying colors associated with the four Hogwarts houses. The phone also has gold-colored details around its cameras and sides, and a laser-engraved “Welcome To Hogwarts” message on its frame. Its stated thickness is 8.47mm.
The themed presentation extends to the packaging. Buyers receive a small suitcase-style case containing an acceptance letter, a book list, a train ticket, character postcards, four house-crest bookmarks and a crest pin. The package also includes a Harry Potter-themed protective case, charger, USB cable, SIM ejector tool and guide. The pin unlocks a “Hogwarts Hidden Surprise”: realme Buds T500 Pro earbuds. Realme also sells those earbuds separately as a more affordable way to get a franchise-inspired product.
The phone’s software includes a Hogwarts castle wallpaper, a boot animation inspired by the films’ title card and a custom Harry Potter fingerprint effect. Realme has also redesigned 30 of its own apps with themed icons and fonts.
Under the themed exterior, the 16 Pro is a midrange smartphone. The reported specifications include 12GB of RAM, 256GB of storage, a MediaTek Dimensity 7300 Max 5G chipset and an ARM Mali-G615 GPU. Its 6.78-inch AMOLED screen has a 144Hz refresh rate, HDR10+ support and a stated peak brightness of 6,500 nits.
The camera system includes a 200-megapixel main camera, a 112-degree wide-angle camera and a 50-megapixel selfie camera. The phone can record video in 4K at 30 frames per second. Its battery is listed at 7,000mAh, with 80W USB-C charging and bypass charging; realme says it can provide up to 22 hours of streaming.
