Redmagic’s 12 Pro adds RGB lighting to the transparent liquid-cooling loop in its gaming phones, expanding on the cooling system introduced in last year’s model. The lights can display patterns, respond to selected apps, and activate for calls and notifications, though their colors are affected by the fluorescent blue coolant.
Blue and white settings make the liquid appear bluer, while green produces a turquoise effect. Red and orange lighting mostly shows up as colored bubbles against the blue fluid. Other lights on the phone—including a ring below the main camera, a light on the side and strips on the touch-sensitive shoulder buttons—show their selected colors more clearly. Two sections of visible cooling liquid near the Redmagic logo have no RGB lighting and remain blue.
The cooling system’s output pressure is 130kPa, an 85 percent increase over the previous generation. It is paired with a built-in fan and a vapor chamber to cool the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 processor. The phone comes with 12GB or 16GB of RAM and 256GB, 512GB or 1TB of storage.
Other specifications include an 8,400mAh battery, 80W charging and a 185Hz display, which reaches its maximum refresh rate only in compatible games. Redmagic says it is the first 185Hz display with an under-display selfie camera. That camera has a 16-megapixel resolution, but its image quality is limited, according to the original report.
The rear camera setup consists of two 50-megapixel cameras, one main and one ultrawide. Both sit flush beneath the rear glass. The phone has an IP69 rating across most of its body, while the area around the fan is rated IPX8 and has no rated dust protection. The 3.5mm headphone jack found on earlier Redmagic phones is absent.
The Redmagic 12 Pro starts at $949, a $200 increase over the 11 Pro and $100 more than the 11S Pro launched in May. The highest-spec version costs $1,199. All configurations include liquid cooling and RGB lighting. Preorders begin November 12, with shipping scheduled to start on November 18.
