Sony’s new PlayStation PULSE wireless headsets are designed to enhance audio on PlayStation 5, with customized planar magnetic drivers and support for the console’s 3D audio. The company says the technology can help players locate sounds more precisely, including footsteps and reloads in competitive games.
PlayStation Link provides lossless audio with ultra-low latency. The headsets can switch between PlayStation 5, PlayStation Portal, PC and Mac, and can connect to a Bluetooth device at the same time for music or phone calls while game audio continues.
For online play, the PULSE headsets include a built-in microphone and AI-based noise rejection intended to reduce background sounds and make conversations clearer.
Sony is also offering the Pulse Edge as a higher-end option. Its planar magnetic drivers use eight magnets per unit, compared with four in the PlayStation PULSE. Additional features include active noise cancellation, a detachable boom microphone with a hidden microphone available when the boom is removed, and dedicated controls for balancing game and chat audio on PlayStation 5. The Pulse Edge also has an audio/microphone jack and a carrying case.
The PlayStation PULSE will be available in Midnight Black and White from November 19 for a recommended price of €99.99. Pre-orders are already open.
