Squarespace is laying off approximately 300 employees as part of an effort to simplify its operations. The cuts represent 19 percent of the company’s workforce of around 1,800 people.
In a statement to The Verge, Squarespace spokesperson Jeff Seedman said the changes are intended to streamline the company’s operations, clarify its priorities and help it move faster as it enters its next phase of growth.
Seedman said affected employees will receive 16 weeks of base pay, along with healthcare benefits through May 2027. He also said the company is providing support to departing workers during the transition.
The layoffs come slightly more than two years after Squarespace expanded its focus on artificial intelligence. In 2024, the company introduced Blueprint AI, a tool designed to build websites and generate content such as website copy, blog posts and product descriptions.
Around the same time, private equity firm Permira completed its acquisition of Squarespace.
