Valve’s October Steam Hardware Survey points to a shift toward less demanding PC configurations. Systems with 16 GB of RAM regained the top spot after 32 GB configurations fell by 5.16%. The share of PCs with 16 GB of RAM rose by 3.60% compared with the previous survey.

Graphics memory rankings also changed. Eight gigabytes of VRAM narrowly led with 26.92%, just ahead of 32 GB at 26.35%. The 16 GB category, which had led the previous month with 27.21%, lost ground. Four gigabytes recorded the biggest increase among VRAM configurations, rising by 0.41%.

The RTX 3060 returned to the top of Steam’s most-used GPU list, although its share grew by only 0.12%. The RTX 5070 fell by 2.37%. AMD’s Radeon RX 9070 XT continued to gain users, reaching 21st place and contributing to growth in the 16 GB VRAM category.

Eight-core processors remained the most common, despite a 1.38% decline. Four-core CPUs had the largest increase among processor configurations, up 1.57%. Full HD resolution also rose by 2.32%, reaching a 50% share and becoming the most popular resolution in the survey.

Taken together, the figures suggest that some Steam users may be turning to older or second-hand components, which could help explain growth in configurations such as 4 GB graphics memory and four-core processors.
