WhatsApp is expanding its smart actions menu beyond web links. The feature now supports physical addresses, dates, phone numbers and email addresses shared in conversations, offering shortcuts to save information or open it in another app.
For example, users can save a time or date to their phone’s calendar, while an address can be copied or opened directly in a maps application. Web links already offer similar options, such as copying the URL or opening it in a browser.
Messages that support these actions appear underlined, in a style similar to hyperlinks and phone numbers. The change is particularly useful for addresses, since users previously had to select and copy the message before pasting it into a navigation app.
According to WABetaInfo, the feature began reaching WhatsApp users on Android and iOS in recent days and is expected to become available to more accounts over the coming weeks. Canaltech reported that it had not yet found the option in its own messages during testing.
There is no specific release schedule, but keeping WhatsApp updated may help users receive the feature as distribution expands.
