X is introducing a rewritten version of its web app, which it says is significantly faster. The update is being rolled out to signed-in users “one country at a time,” while the new version already powers the logged-out experience on X.com and pages crawled by search engines, principal engineer Yagiz Nizipli said in a blog post.

Nizipli compared how quickly a profile loads over a slow connection. On the old app, he said, users could wait more than 22 seconds for the first post to appear; on the new version, it appeared in 2.7 seconds.

The rewrite also combines infrastructure previously used for users, search crawlers and link previews into a single system, according to Nizipli. Security researcher Jane Manchun Wong, who said she had access to the updated app, described it as fast and polished.
