Microsoft is testing two new ways to control games on Xbox Cloud Gaming: a direct Wi-Fi connection for the Xbox Nano controller and a phone-based controller for smart TVs.
The Xbox Nano preview is available to players in the US starting today. Instead of connecting to a TV over Bluetooth, the controller uses Wi-Fi to connect directly to the cloud server running the game. Microsoft says this may reduce input latency and make gameplay feel more responsive.
Players outside the US can try the smart TV phone-controller option. It is available through the Xbox Cloud Gaming website and is intended to let people use the streaming service without a dedicated Bluetooth controller.
Both features are still being tested, and Microsoft says availability and supported games or devices may be limited. To set up cloud connect on the Nano, players need the Xbox beta app for Android or the Xbox Accessories app on PC. The phone-controller preview can be enabled in Xbox Cloud Gaming under Settings > Account.
