YouTube Music is developing animated icons for its Android app, potentially replacing some of the streaming service’s static controls with more fluid interactions. The changes have not yet been made available to users, and no release date has been announced.

Android Authority reported that the animations were found in the app’s code. They appear to cover actions including play and pause, skipping forward or backward in podcasts, turning on shuffle and setting the timer.

The icon work is part of a wider set of visual changes being tested for YouTube Music. The service has recently begun testing album and playlist pages that give cover art more prominence at the top of the screen, stretching it across the available width. The redesigned area also adds a shuffle button, which previously required users to start playback and enable shuffle from the player screen.

The service has also changed how cover art appears in the mobile player, with a look reminiscent of Google Play Music.
