The change means the shared content will be accessible to Apple for review, according to a company support document reported by 9to5Mac.

The support document does not specify what Apple classifies as harmful content. It also says that sharing an item through an iCloud link that anyone can access means the item is no longer end-to-end encrypted.

Apple says it may move, refuse, modify, remove, or delete content it considers harmful. The company also reserves the option to block or disable accounts, prevent users from creating new accounts, and, if necessary, contact law enforcement.

The policy follows calls from protestors for Apple to address child sexual abuse material stored in iCloud. Apple has released the first developer betas of its 27.3 updates and recently said it plans to launch iOS 27.3 in December.
