Meta plans to release the final operating system update for its Quest 2 and Quest Pro virtual reality headsets by March 2027. The update is expected to be version 213, according to the company.

After that release, Meta says it will continue providing security patches and fixes for critical bugs through the end of 2027. Developers will also be able to submit apps that support the Quest 2 and Quest Pro until December 2027.

Both headsets were discontinued in 2024. Meta now describes the Quest 3 and Quest 3S as the baseline for its VR platform, offering developers more performance headroom and built-in mixed reality capabilities.

The company says this transition is also linked to its planned VR Glasses, which are expected to launch sometime in spring 2027. Meta adds that apps developed for Quest 3 and Quest 3S can carry over to the glasses because they use the same operating system and software development kits.
