Office 2024 supports version 1.4 of the OpenDocument Format (ODF), making it easier to work with text documents, spreadsheets and presentations created in LibreOffice and other compatible suites. The update applies to Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and adds support for several features that were previously available only in Microsoft’s .docx, .xlsx and .pptx formats.
In Word, .odt files can use Word’s numbered-list formats, and tables can be inserted inside shapes. Excel can preserve color-based filter settings in .ods spreadsheets, with some limitations, and reads text rotated by 90 degrees more faithfully. PowerPoint supports slide numbering that begins at zero in .odp files, as well as text rotated by 90 or 270 degrees in table cells. ODF 1.4 also adds an accessibility attribute that lets objects be marked as decorative for screen readers to ignore.
ODF is an open standard managed by OASIS and also published as an ISO standard. It is the native format used by LibreOffice and other office suites, with .odt for text documents, .ods for spreadsheets and .odp for presentations. In Portugal, public administration requirements for open standards also mean these file types remain in circulation.
Microsoft began adding ODF 1.4 support to Microsoft 365 applications in 2024. Office 2021 supports ODF 1.3, while earlier versions use older specifications. Those versions can open ODF 1.4 files but do not support the newer features described above. The source reports that Office 2021 stopped receiving updates on October 13, 2026, and that Office 2016 and Office 2019 had already reached that point in October 2025. Microsoft support for Office 2024 is scheduled to continue until October 2029.
Users can save documents in ODF formats through the Save As menu. The source also notes that VBA macros are not saved in ODF files, so documents that rely on macros should remain in .docm or .xlsm formats. For documents that do not need further editing, PDF is presented as a way to preserve the layout when sharing.
The source article also lists a GoodOffer24 promotion, with the code TT30 advertised for selected digital Windows and Office keys. It gives a price of €17.80 for an Office 2024 Professional Plus key and says promotional prices may change without notice. The article states that its information, links and/or equipment were provided with GoodOffer24’s support.
