Apple is expanding Siri AI beyond its own apps, allowing third-party developers to integrate the assistant’s features as part of the iOS 27.3 Developer Preview, which began rolling out Tuesday. Siri can use a person’s context, understand natural-language requests and interpret what is on screen to help complete tasks.

The update also introduces “app skills,” which developers can use to group several actions into one request. According to Apple’s documentation, users may not need to name an app when it is already open, appears in a Live Activity or is part of the conversation with Siri.

Apple gives the example of requesting a ride, checking its Live Activity while waiting, and then asking Siri to change the pickup address. The company says it had previously made a smaller set of Siri features available to third-party developers.

Apple is also bringing the expanded capabilities to its own apps, including Calendar, Files, Finder, Journal, Mail, Maps, Messages, Music, Notes, Photos, Preview, Reminders, Safari, Shortcuts and Weather. Examples include asking Siri to find a coffee shop visited the previous week or archive files that have not been opened for more than a year. Users can also ask what Siri can do in a particular app.
