Owners of Apple’s first foldable phone, the iPhone Duo, have reported cracks in its screen on Reddit and social media platforms including X and TikTok. Bloomberg News says it verified accounts from more than half a dozen customers. Apple acknowledged that the issue affects “a small number” of devices and advised owners experiencing it to contact AppleCare about a replacement. The company has not said what causes the cracks or whether it plans a broader fix.

The iPhone Duo sold out when online pre-orders opened two weeks before its release, with delivery estimates reaching three months. It went on sale on October 23 in Spain, where its starting price is €2,339.

Foldable displays are subject to repeated bending, making durability a key concern. Samsung Display said in July 2025 that one of its foldable OLED panels had passed a test involving 500,000 folds. Apple has not published a comparable test result for the iPhone Duo.

Several creators have recently filmed their own endurance tests. Tim Pan folded the phone more than 10,000 times without incident, while Joanna Stern opened and closed it 32,000 times. Kuba Klawiter’s test ended after 75,001 folds, when the device broke.

The reported screen damage comes after Apple highlighted the Duo’s durability, hinge design and display technology at its launch. It remains unclear whether the complaints reflect isolated cases or a wider issue.
