Anthropic has introduced Smart Reports, a feature for Claude Enterprise customers that analyzes how teams use the AI assistant and what that usage costs. The company says the reports are intended to help organizations understand their workflows and manage spending, not to evaluate individual employees or make employment decisions.

Reports can show which kinds of tasks teams use Claude for, the associated costs at list prices, and recurring workflows that could potentially be grouped more efficiently. The feature is free for Enterprise customers, disabled by default, and allows each organization to create up to 10 reports per month.

Only authorized managers can access Smart Reports, and they choose the scope of an analysis, such as a time period or a particular team. Anthropic says Claude samples transcripts within that scope, groups them by workflow and output type, assigns related costs, and summarizes the findings. Sessions identified as confidential are included only in aggregated analysis, without personal details.

The reports arrive as companies look for ways to keep AI expenses under control. The article cites a Bitkom survey in which one-third of German companies said they had been surprised by the high costs of using AI. Some organizations are responding by choosing models according to the task or tracking token use.

Although Anthropic says Smart Reports are not meant for individual assessments, the information could still allow managers to draw conclusions about how efficiently teams work. Futurism has suggested the feature may help Anthropic attract business customers concerned about controlling AI costs. Media reports cited in the article say enterprise customers account for around 80 percent of the company’s revenue; the article also notes that new enterprise-focused features could matter ahead of a planned IPO.
