Customers hoping to receive Apple’s first foldable smartphone before Christmas may face a longer wait. Pre-orders for the iPhone Duo reportedly depleted the initial batch across almost all platforms within hours, pushing estimated deliveries to late January.

Apple leadership has acknowledged that production capacity is far below the volume of orders. John Ternus said the company could not yet estimate when supply would meet demand, pointing to a bottleneck in manufacturing rather than a brief stock shortage.

The reported supply constraints reflect both component costs and manufacturing challenges. The source says prices for memory modules used in AI tasks have risen sharply, putting pressure on operating margins. It also identifies the foldable screen mechanism as a production hurdle: manufacturing the panels requires high yields that factories have not yet consistently achieved.

Early users have also reported screen issues around the hinge. Apple said these cases make up a small share of devices and that affected customers can receive free replacements through official support. Reserving working units for replacements may further reduce the stock available to new buyers.

The report advises customers seeking the iPhone Duo to order through official channels as soon as possible and expect a wait. Mobile carriers and retail partners are expected to receive limited quantities, making same-day purchases in physical stores difficult.
