In the aftermath of a historic midterm defeat where Democrats seized control of both the House and Senate, many figures within the MAGA movement have shifted their focus from supporting President Donald Trump to holding him directly responsible. While Trump spent Tuesday evening criticizing Fox News for platforming Democratic opponents and insisting that he would have won in a landslide had he been on the ballot, a significant revolt has emerged among his former allies.

Matt Walsh, a right-wing podcaster, described the results as a political catastrophe of historic proportions, labeling Trump an 80-year-old lame duck. Walsh attributed the losses to the president's decision to start a war with Iran and his focus on trivial matters such as renaming artificial intelligence superintelligence and the White House ballroom. Similarly, commentator Mike Cernovich pointed to Trump's alienation of libertarian voters as a key factor in the GOP wipeout.

Former national security adviser Mike Flynn also directed blame at the president, stating that someone needs to look in a mirror, while additionally criticizing Christians for failing to show up to vote. Conspiracy theorist Alex Jones took a more aggressive stance on his show, declaring himself 100 percent at war with Trump. Jones suggested that despite previous efforts to salvage the relationship, he now believes Trump is an ultimate Democrat sleeper cell working against the movement.

Other commentators echoed these sentiments without always naming Trump directly. Jack Posobiec and Nick Sortor cited the decision to engage in war with Iran as a primary cause for the losses. Marjorie Taylor Greene, who had previously broken with Trump, stated that the election was a total referendum on the president, noting that voters followed his lead as if he were on the ballot.

Despite the vocal backlash, some of Trump's most prominent supporters have remained silent regarding the blame. Elon Musk, who invested hundreds of millions in losing Republican candidates, posted a joke about his election-interfering space lasers failing but noted it was interesting that exit polls identified the Iran war as a massive losing issue. Influencer DC Draino and House Speaker Mike Johnson also refrained from assigning specific blame, with Johnson simply stating the results were not what they had hoped for.

Conversely, a smaller group of right-wing figures continued to defend Trump despite the outcome. Laura Loomer praised the president as a hero for stopping Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon and lamented the rise of communism rather than criticizing his leadership. Lara Logan blamed an anonymous conspiracy within the Republican party aimed at dismantling the MAGA movement, while Chaya Raichik attributed the losses to a long-term Democratic plot involving imported voters.

Kari Lake, Trump's nominee for ambassador to Jamaica, refused to blame the president and instead reiterated claims of a stolen election, questioning the honesty of the vote count. Harrison Smith, a host on Steve Bannon's War Room show, directed his criticism toward fellow influencers like Ben Shapiro and Mark Levin, as well as AIPAC. In a unique twist, former homeland security secretary Kristi Noem accepted personal responsibility, suggesting the massive losses occurred because the administration was too successful in its first year.
