Nearly half of the games released on Steam in October 2026 disclosed using Generative AI content, according to an analysis of the platform’s public data. The figure reached 49.9%, compared with 26.4% in October 2025.

The analysis was conducted by Reddit user u/ploz and published on November 1, then reported by Dexerto. It examined information on about 63,600 games released since January 2024. Across games launched in 2026 through the end of October, 40.1% disclosed AI-generated content.

Steam introduced a system for developers to report AI-generated content in January 2024. At that point, 1.7% of new games disclosed such use. The share rose to 13.2% for all of 2024 and 24% in 2025.

Valve clarified the reporting rules in January 2026. Developers must disclose AI-generated material that players can see, hear or read, including images, audio, text, translations and store pages. Tools used behind the scenes, such as coding assistants, do not need to be reported. Disclosures appear on each game’s Steam page.

Images were the most commonly reported use, appearing in 63% of developer disclosures. Text and translations accounted for 30%, store pages and promotional materials for 26%, music for 21%, and code for 16%. Voice generation was reported in 7% of disclosures, while AI-generated content created during gameplay was reported in 3%. Games can list multiple uses, so the percentages add up to more than 100%.

The analysis also found that disclosure rates varied by a game’s number of Steam reviews and by how frequently its developer released games. Among 2026 releases with fewer than 10 reviews, 47% disclosed AI use, compared with 14% of games with at least 1,000 reviews. Developers that released 10 or more games in 2026 reported AI use in 68% of their titles, versus 37% for developers that released one game.

These figures reflect developers’ disclosures, so they do not include games that use AI without reporting it. The analysis also noted that games with fewer than 10 reviews make up a substantial share of Steam releases: according to SteamDB, nearly half of the games released in 2025 had not reached that threshold by December.
