GOG senior business development and partnerships manager Marcin Paczynski says his ideal setup would let customers buy a PC game through the digital storefront and have a physical copy delivered to their home. He described the idea in an interview with GamesRadar, while cautioning that making it happen would be complicated.
In Paczynski’s vision, players would select a game from their GOG library, request a physical edition and receive it by mail. But selling physical products brings challenges that digital distribution avoids, including storage and shipping, as well as the need for additional publisher approvals.
The process can also be affected by broader economic and geopolitical conditions, which may raise costs during events such as wars or oil crises, Paczynski noted.
GOG has separately supported a way for players to create physical-style game packaging at home: it has made 3D-printable models of classic PC game boxes available. The titles listed include Myst, Descent, Hitman: Codename 47, Star Trek: 25th Anniversary and Armikrog.
