In a recent interview with Edge magazine, Grand Theft Auto VI directors Aaron Garbut and Rob Nelson provided official details regarding the scale of the game's new map. While rumors have circulated for years about the massive size of the upcoming title, Rockstar has now confirmed that the fictional state of Leonida will cover approximately double the surface area of the map in GTA V.

Although Rockstar has not released specific figures in square kilometers, community estimates suggest that driving across the new territory from end to end would take roughly 29 minutes. This represents a significant increase compared to the 10 to 15 minutes required to cross the map of GTA V by highway. The state of Leonida, which is inspired by Florida, features Vice City as its main urban center, modeled after Miami. According to Nelson, Vice City alone will be twice the size of Los Santos, and when including its suburbs, the city and its surrounding areas are eleven times larger than those in GTA V.

The expansion extends beyond the city limits to include vast rural and coastal territories such as the Leonida Keys and the Grassrivers. Garbut emphasized that Rockstar aimed to avoid leaving these rural zones empty, a common issue in previous titles. He stated that players can go to any random location on the map and find that significant thought has been put into every area. Additionally, the game will feature improved building exploration, allowing access to more interiors like shops and commercial buildings without loading screens.

Beyond the map size, unconfirmed leaks reported by GamesRadar suggest the PS5 version of the game could weigh approximately 210GB. This figure would be roughly double the size of GTA V, though Rockstar has not officially confirmed the file size, which may vary by platform.
